What the heck is a Derma Rolling??
There’s a huge YouTube selection of educational videos, tutorials and reviews about Derma Rolling a procedure also known as micro-needling. Derma Rolling is actually a great procedure to get done once a month or once every two weeks depending on how its being done. I however do not encourage it being done at home without any proper knowledge of what it is and how it works. If your interested in getting it done professionally make sure your doctor or skin tech is a certified Plastic Surgeon, Dermatologist, Registered Cosmetic Nurse or a trained Esthetician. There are Medical Estheticians, Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists who do offer the service in packages or in sessions.
Derma rolling is a procedure for reducing acne scars, hyper-pigmentations, wrinkles and fine lines. There are so many benefits to this procedure. To get maximum results derma rolling works best with hyaluronic acid, vitamin A or E and a numbing cream. The procedure is done using a Derma Roller or a Derma Pen consist of mini needles. Depending on the tool, you either glide or roll the needles on your skin to puncture micro injuries to produce collagen and elastin that repair the skin introducing clearer and brighter complexions. A lot of professional Dermatologists recommend and prefers the Dermapen over the manual Derma Roller.
Derma rolling is a procedure causing trauma to the skin in order to produce new skin, eliminating scars and imperfections. It’s the same concept as a deep medical peel and laser IPL. I never advise derma rolling to be done at home without the proper tools, knowledge, and aftercare. I do not recommend those with skin that had gone through grade 4 and 5 acne to perform this procedure on themselves at home. It’s important to take precaution and follow safety guidelines and seek a professional in order to get the best results and experience. Incorrect procedures done can damage the skin and cause infection rather than achieving any results.
It can be a painful procedure depending on the length of the needles that are being used to puncture holes into the skin. A numbing cream will be applied to numb the skin before each procedures to maximize the treatment. Most patients have claimed that derma rolling and Microneedling is more effective than getting multiple laser treatments.
